The Conrail Legacy Award
The Conrail Legacy award is an award given by the CRHS to individuals who have made outsized contributions to the preservation of Conrail’s history.
Grant Lowry
Grant has been a supporter of the CRHS from the very beginning in many ways.
He is always quick to promote the CRHS and Conrail to anyone who utters a word that relates to the railroad or society in any way.
Grant’s biggest contribution to the CRHS though is a gift for railroaders of almost any kind. For decades Grant kept taking picture after picture as the freight trains rolled by in front of him.
After the locomotives went passed, he just kept clicking that shutter and he took a good bit of razzing for it over those decades. But no one is laughing now.
His tens of thousands of slides and negatives of freight cars through the early transition years of Conrail and beyond and now his legacy.
Grant’s photos have been used in many publications and provided the crucial information needed to bring many models to reality by several manufacturers
These photographs are now in the hands of the CRHS and will be digitized when the archives can be moved into the finished museum. We will find many uses for them and they will live forever.
We cannot thank Grant enough for what you he has accomplished in preserving the changing look of a freight train car by car for decades and hist dedication to the CRHS.
