Semi-Annual Rail-B-Q's

Check the upcoming events area for information on our next CRHS Rail-B-Q!

So, What is a CRHS Rail-B-Q?
Every year the President of the Conrail Historical Society, Inc. hosts a semi-annual gathering of railfans in Marysville, PA. These gatherings, held in May and August, have been dubbed the CRHS Rail-B-Q's. The all day events kick off at 10AM and continue well into the evening hours.

Railfans from all corners of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Michigan and more make the trek to watch the non-stop parade of activity of the Pittsburgh line in the backyard, or Rockville Bridge and the Buffalo line from the front porch. The former Conrail Pittsburgh line is right in our backyard where you can view as many as 4 trains moving on various elevations of track at the same time! Rarely is there more than 15 minutes of silence along this busy piece of railroad. Attendance has grown over the last several years to nearly 100 people now!

Our grills serve up plenty of hamburgers, hotdogs, sides and all the trimmings! There are plenty of trains to see, people to talk to, food to eat, and other activities to keep our guests occupied including horseshoes, display items, The Conrail Shoppe and more.

We have built in other activities including local trips to various locations for unique photo opportunities and excursions on board our N7E Bay Window Caboose! The quarterly CRHS membership meetings are held after another round of feasting, followed by a spectacular Conrail slide presentation in the backyard beginning at dusk!

This event is open to all railfans, you do not have to be a CRHS member to join in on the fun, however an RSVP is requested so that we may plan to have the right amount of food and drinks on hand! Donations will help cover the cost for food and drinks.

I would like to thank April, Kris and JB for the wonderful time had by all at yesterday's outting. I for one enjoyed the day and the train action was almost non-stop. I would also like to thank a certain ex-Con for arranging a little brush and tree removal at "Overview" :-)LOL. Again a big THANK YOU to my hosts yesterday! BTW, when can we do this again??????????????? John Durant

Yesterday, myself and several other Conrail fans attended the first get-together of the new CRHS. It was a pretty slow day on the Pittsburgh Line, but we saw plenty of blue, plenty of foreign power, and a good bit of coal and hopper trains. Most of the day was spent just hanging out and BS-ing and watching trains as they passed by. JB and Kris cooked hamburgers and hot dogs, which were great. Once it started getting late, we held a meeting and discussed the past and future of the organization. JB then put on an impressive slide show of mostly 70's and 80's Conrail stuff. That's about it. Great work guys. Thanks to Kris & April for the hospitality and JB for the food and slide show. Lance Myers

Thank you for the picnic. You, April and JB have done a great job not only for the food but getting that oil company to let us use their property for us to watch and take pictures of trains going by. I have yet again broke a new record in my life in how many trains I can see in a 24 hour time period. That day I broke that record by one train which brings me up to 16 in a day. Matthew Sebastionelli

I sure had fun! Was great to meet everyone in person that I've been talking to on this board for the past couple years. Scott Arentzen

I, will have to agree on the good time. Kris, Thank You, I have some great pictures! We had great food and the company was wonderful. Gary Van Der Starre

The CRHS rail-b-que was a lot of fun, good food and hospitality by Kris, April and all who made it possible. The slide show was great, along with the railfanning in his yard. From 3pm, to 10:45 pm, a total of 19 trains passed us! Thanks, Kris we all had a blast, and if you have another one in the fall, like you mentioned, we will be there. If anyone has not joined yet, join now!!! Matt Arentzen

Hey guys, I wanna throw out a thank you to everyone that made it, it was awesome just sitting around hearing stories and then having to hobble as fast as I could while yelling, "PLEASE STOP AND WAIT FOR ME! IM HANDICAP!" to catch a train! And especially thank you to Kris and April for their hospitality (and for picking such a great location for a house!). Thanks guys for making this group what it is and what we hope it to be! John, Kermit wow! You guys are spectacular and have such a wealth of knowledge! Cheers to the Summer Rail-B-Q! Jermey Zella

I had a great time and can't wait for the next one! Chris Carangi

I wanted to thank you and April for a good day. Good meeting you and John and everybody else. I had a real good time. I did not get home till 5AM since I pulled over and slept a little. It was really worth the trip out. The slide shows were great and the Custom Conrail Models were awesome. Food was good to. Charles Schneider

Kris/April, thank you for hosting another "GREAT" event and meeting. The conversations were fantastic, the food was good, and the slides cannot be described, as they brought back many memories. The topper was the posing of the Conrail GP15. Someday you must tell us how you managed that feat as you must have an in with NS. Again thanks to you and all that attended for a really fun day.
