The 859H class was built by Pullman Standard in 1956 as NYC 883000-883099. 59 cars carried their NYC numbers to Conrail and became CR 878106-878183. 33 cars were renumbered into the PC series of 883500-883595 and then became CR 883500-883595. Cars had a capacity of 2893 cuft.

The 916H class was built by Despatch Shops in 1962 as NYC 885150-885299. 79 cars carried their NYC number to Conrail and became CR 884437-884517. 65 cars were renumbered into PC series 884150-884298 and then became CR 884150-884298. Cars have a capacity of 3506 cuft.

Conrail 890000 was a one-of-a-kind experimental car built by the NYC at the Despatch Shops in 1966. It was equipped with B.F. Goodrich's "Granu-Max" inflatable slope sheets and was known as the Flexi-Flator. Clearly the concept did not catch on, but the car did stick around long enough to make it into CR paint.

The CE14A class was built by ACF in 1964 as EL 20000-20024. Cars became CR 884130-884157. Some cars were renumbered outside this number series.

The CE16A class was built by ACF in 1968 as EL 20100-20149 & 21455. Cars became CR 886077-886178 & 886691.

The CE16B class of covered hoppers was built by Pullman Standard during July 1970 as EL 20150-20279. Cars were assigned to CR 886181-886540 series. Series is not solid because the cars were renumbered around other cars joining the fleet. Some cars were also renumbered into the CR 886006-886178 series which were allocated for EL 20025-20074 class CE15B cars that were transfered to the D&H in April 1976. EL 20215 survived well into the Conrail era in pure EL paint when it was sold and became NRLX 47316. Cars are rated at 100 tons, 4740 cuft & are 56ft long.

The CE72B class was built by Greenville Steel Car in 1957 as ERIE 21800-21899. After the ERIE & DL&W merger cars became EL 218000-21899. Cars became CR 876376-876480. Cars had a capacity of 2893 cuft.

The CL15A class was built by Bethlehem Steel between 1964-1965 as LV 51100-51150. Cars became CR 887023-887825. Series is not solid as cars were renumbered around other cars joining the fleet. Some cars were also renumbered outside this number series. Cars had a capacity of 4462 cuft.

The CL16A class of covered hoppers were built by Penn Central at Holidaysburg Car Shops in 1968 for the LV as LV 50900-50999. Cars were renumbered into the CR 886807-887019 series. The series is not solid as cars were renumbered around other cars joining the fleet. Car are rated at 10 tons, 4635 cuft & are 55ft 7in long.

Conrail's CR13A, CR13B, and CR13C classes were built by the Reading from 1968-70. They are 100-ton clones of the popular Pullman-Standard PS-2 design.

The PRR started building 70-ton H30 class covered hoppers in 1944. This number grew to 1325 by 1952, with an additional 250 H30A class cars appearing by the end of 1953.

The H42 and H42A classes were built by ACF in 1964 for the PRR. The H42 class cars were unlined as the H42A class had a interior lining.

The H44 class of covered hoppers were built by ACF between Aug-Sept 1964 as PRR 260121-260410. 170 cars carried their PRR number to Conrail and were numbered into the CR 884665-884843 series. The 109 cars that had been renumbed to PC 885019-885304 became CR 885019-885304. PRR 260397 and PC 885237 were never renumber to Conrail and lasted well into the Conrail era. Cars are rated at 100 tons and have 3700 cuft capacity.

Conrail's H45 and H45A cars are 3-bay ACF Centerflows built at ACF's Huntington, WV plant in 1965. There were 345 H45s with gravity discharge gates, whereas the 70 H45As were equipped with gravity/pneumatic outlets and were lined for food-grade service.

The H46 class was built by Pullman Standard in 1966 as PRR 260471-260655. 111 cars carried their PRR number to Conrail and became CR 890852-890962. 66 cars were renumbered into PC series 888411-888594, then becoming CR 888411-888594. Cars have a capacity of 4650 cuft.

Conrail's H51 classes were made up of 861 cars built at Hollidaysburg to General American's Dry-Flo designs in 1969 by PC.

The H54 class of coveed hoppers were built by Pullman Standard in 1971 as PCB 888749-889999. 1234 cars made it to Conrail and became CR 888749-889999. Cars are rated at 100 tons, 4785 cuft and are 59ft 2in long. Conrail's H54 class was a group of 1250 PS-2CD cars built and leased to the PC, originally given PCB reporting marks to distinguish them from cars governed by the PC's bankruptcy process.

The H56A class was built by Pullman Standard in 1974 as PC 890501-890800. Cars would become CR 890501-890800. During Conrail these cars were sold and became NAHX 890501-890800. Some cars were sold again to Infinity Rail (INFX reporting marks).
