Occasionally, power from other roads would venture on CR's rails. Run-through power from western roads could be seen on interchange trains at Yards like Elkhart and Avon, while power from CSX and NS could be found on interchange trains to and from Selkirk and Allentown.Â
Foreign Power on Conrail
CSX 6220 leads a varied lash-up on CSSE through Iona Island at 14:03 on Oct. 24, 1998.
CSX 7880 leads SECS through Iona at 16:00 on Oct. 24, 1998. CSX power was fairly common on the SECS/CSSE turns and was a harbinger of the future for the River Line.
Amtrak 47, the Pennsylvanian, rounds the curve at Newport with it's then-usual F40PH leader at 12:22PM.

Santa Fe GP40X 3805 leads two sisters, the 3805 and 3806, on a westbound through Chester, MA. in late June, 1979. The prototypes for what would eventually become the GP50 tested on the B&A for several weeks in June and July of 1979. CR sent a like number of SD40's to the AT&SF as "collateral" during the test period.
Crew catches some air on Santa Fe GP40X 3806 passing the summit with a westbound ballast train in Hinsdale, MA. on July 20, 1979.

An eastbound Conrail freight(most likely SFEL, which came off the Santa Fe at Streator, IL) with Santa Fe 5402 and a pair of GE's, including one in the rare Kodachrome scheme, passes Bend Tower in June 1993. Doug Davidson photo with permission

A pair of Santa Fe Uboats, including ATSF 6381, rest in the small, modest Conrail engine facility at South Anderson Yards on April 8, 1982. While the yard still exists(2010), the engine facility does not, making this a rather rare shot. Kevin Nelson photo with permission

Foreign power was an occasional visitor to the B&A during ConRail's tenure but, the sheer number of visitors on this day was exceptional, in my experience. Here, TV-9 is led by CR 6636 and one each of NS and SF units passing MP 139 in Hinsdale, MA. at 09:20 on the morning of Jan. 29, 1994.
TV-9 going away down the tangent across the Hinsdale flats and a little better look at the "outlanders", NS U23B 3931 and SF B23-7 63x5, couldn't read that third number.
CR 6750 and another SF unit lead SEBO beneath the Bullard's Crossing truss and over the summit of Washington hill in Hinsdale, MA. at 09:37.
Better look at SF 5053, an SD40-2, in SEBO along with CR 6851 as the head end passes the summit.
CR 6106 leads NESE over the summit in Hinsdale, MA. at 09:41 with another "black pony" in the lash-up.
NS SD40-2 3278 in NESE at the summit in Hinsdale, MA.
SD60M 5553 has the trail as NESE is about to duck beneath the now-extinct Bullard's Crossing truss bridge.
SEFR-X skirting the edge of Muddy Pond at the Hinsdale/Washington, MA. town line at 14:58. More foreigners...
SD60M 5536 leads SEFR-X along Muddy Pond in Washington, MA.
Going away view of SEFR-X shows UP SD40 4245 to a little better advantage, along with CR 6396 in Washington, MA.
SEBO9X shows up in Huntington, MA. at 16:46, just about sunset time with another Santa Fe unit to add to the collection.
Santa Fe SD40 5206 in SEBO9X at Huntington, MA.
SEBO9X headend going away in Huntington, MA. Note CR gon 585210 sitting on the team track.
A Guilford train snakes thru the curves just East of Browns Crossing on Conrails Southern Tier Line..
There is quite the eclectic mix of power at the former Erie E55th St facility in Cleveland,Ohio this August 1976 day. The EL C-424 is on home rails, but the Penn Central FP7 (note lift rings), the Lehigh Valley GP-18, and the far from home BAR geep are new visitors to this Conrail yard. The base of the old steam era water tank still stands in this shot, but today all tracks seen here are gone. EL 2414 would become CR 2488 and spend a lot of time down in Youngstown.
