I should have probably saved this for a Contrivia question, but found this interesting document that talks about the start of Conrail giving the Milwaukee Road trackage rights on the Kankakee Branch/Danville Secondary and then onto the ex NYC mainline at Paris, IL so that the MILW could reach its trackage in Terre Haute, IN. It should be noted that MILW sucessor Soo Line ended this trackage rights agreement by the end of 1992 in favor of trackage rights on the CSX via the parallel UP/CSX joint line(ex C&EI) Chicago to Woodland Jct and then down the CSX line(ex C&EI) to Terre Haute where the trains regained home rails again. It was at this point in time that Conrail mothballed the Danvillle Secondary and stopped running trains down it. The line, while out of service, still exists today and is owned by NS.
